Summary Statement for Proposed Uses of Arts in Education Grant: <br /> Arris Golden,project director,along band directors, Michael Capps at A.L.Stanback Middle School and <br /> Mary May,at C.W.Stanford Middle School would like to host Patrick Sheridan,for a three day residency <br /> this coming school year to offer one clinic per band class at each of the three middle schools. Mr. <br /> Sheridan's clinics include flexibility exercises, "Breathing Gym"instruction,and demonstrations on how to <br /> use the entire lung capacity to improve sound. <br /> 4.Budget Sheet(Attached) <br /> S.Arts Program Application Narrative: <br /> Orange County Middle School Profiles <br /> A.L.Stanback Middle School is located 3 miles south of 1-85 in Hillsborough and 10 miles north of Chapel <br /> Hill on NC 86. The school population of 634 students includes grades 6-8. Of these approximately seventy <br /> percent are Caucasian,20%Afro-American,9%Hispanic and 1%Asian. Thirty percent qualify for the free <br /> or reduced lunch program.There are 110 students enrolled in band. <br /> C.W.Stanford Middle School is located inside the town of Hillsborough just north of Hwy 70 and west of <br /> 86N.The school population of 583 students includes grades 6-8. Of these approximately 72%are <br /> Caucasian, 18%Afro-American,7%Hispanic and 3%other. Thirty one percent qualify for the free or <br /> reduced lunch program.There are 95 students enrolled in band. <br /> Gravelly Hill Middle School is located in Efland and serves the northern part of Orange County. The school <br /> population of 500 students includes grades 6-8. Of these approximately 62%are Caucasian, 29%Afro- <br /> American,and 8%Hispanic. Thirty five percent qualify for the free or reduced lunch program.
