1
ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: June 26, 1996
Action Agenda
Item #$
SUBJECT: ADDITIONAL APPOINTMENTS TO THE
SHAPING ORANGE COUNTY'S FUTURE TASK FORCE
ACTION BY:
DEPARTMENT: PLANNING PUBLIC HEARING: Yes__J_No
BUDGET AMENDMENT REQUIRED: Yes X_No
ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: Dave Stancil
• Memo from SOCF Steering Committee Ext 2590
TELEPHONE NUMBERS:
Hillsborough - 732-8181
Durham -688-7331
Mebane -227-2031
Chapel Hill -967-9251
PURPOSE: To consider four additional appointments to the Shaping Orange County's
Future(SOCF) Task Force.
BACKGROUND: On June 13,the Shaping Orange County's Future Steering Committee
unanimously agreed to ask the elected boards of Orange County, Chapel Hill and
Carrboro to appoint four additional members to the SOCF Task Force. These
persons are proposed to address a gender imbalance among the original 26
appointees. The Task.Force is currently comprised of 17 men and 9 women.
The four persons recommended for appointment to address this imbalance are
Rhonda Pope, Carole Crumley, Susan Prothro Worley and Linda Foxworth. The
selections were made from the"short list"of applicants previously considered by
the Steering Committee. The appointment of these four women would bring the
gender distribution to 17-13 and would create a Task Force of 30 members.
RECOMMENDATION: The Administration recommends the appointment of Rhonda Pope, Carole
Crumley, Susan Prothro Worley and Linda Foxworth, as recommended by the
SOCF Steering Committee.
