BACKGROUND: The Housing and Community Development Department solicited bids from qualified housing rehabilitation contractors participating in the County' s Housing Rehabilitation Program. Informal contract law is utilized for awarding housing rehabilitation. For Dwelling #6, sealed bids were received from participating contractors on March 14, 1996 and opened on the same day. The lowest bidder did not have a general contractor' s license which is required for jobs over $30,000. All other bids exceeded the available program funds, thus, the rehab job . was rebid. On May 14, 1996, bids were solicited from area contractors with no response. Bids were solicited on the same day and one bid was received and further negotiation took place with this bidder. For Dwelling #4, sealed bids were received from qualified housing rehabilitation contractors on May 24, 1996 and opened on the same day respectively. Bid results are attached. RECOMMENDATION - The Manager recommends awarding the following rehabilitation contracts: Dwelling Unit Bid Amount Contractor #6 $ 35,050 MDH Construction Company #4 19,550 Taylor Home Improvements
