White Cross Volunteer <br /> Fire Department Letter of <br /> Request <br /> PURPOSE: To approve budget and capital project ordinance amendments for fiscal year 2013- <br /> 14. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Health Department <br /> 1. On June 30, 2013, the Health Department had unspent grants funds for the following <br /> programs that were received during FY 2012-13 and were earmarked as deferred <br /> revenue/in-flows for use in FY 2013-14: <br /> • Susan G. Komen Grant — receipt of $24,288 in Susan G. Komen for the Cure <br /> grant funds. In partnership with Piedmont Health Services, the department will <br /> be able to expand breast cancer screening access and diagnostic testing to <br /> eligible clients in order to increase early detection and treatment of breast cancer. <br /> • Anne Wolfe Mini-Grant — receipt of $2,945 in Anne Wolfe Mini-grant funds from <br /> the North Carolina Public Health Association. Funding for this grant allows <br /> current nursing staff to become Lamaze Childbirth Educators and begin offering <br /> Childbirth Education classes to prenatal patients and their partners. In addition to <br /> childbirth-specific information, classes will include education on a healthy <br /> pregnancy, including nutrition information, smoking cessation, substance abuse, <br /> avowing maternal infections including STDs, newborn care, breastfeeding, infant <br /> safe sleep, secondhand some exposure, and other relevant topics. <br />
