Petitions by Board Members <br /> Commissioner Price said she attended an awards program at Orange County Schools this past <br /> weekend. She asked the Board to present a resolution to the Northern Orange Education Task Force and <br /> Superintendent Patrick Rhodes for their achievements in bridging the minority achievement gap. She said <br /> she will gather more information and work on this to present it for processing. <br /> Commissioner Dorosin noted that, a few weeks ago, he had asked a question about a review of the <br /> employment practice about ban the box. He asked about the status. <br /> Frank Clifton said this will be put as an informational item on the next meeting agenda. <br /> 4. Proclamations/ Resolutions/ Special Presentations <br /> a. a. Voluntary and Enhanced Agricultural District Designation — Multiple Farms —Walker, Kirk, <br /> D. Pope, J. Pope, Hill, Ranells/Bergmann, Green <br /> The Board considered applications from multiple landowners/farms to certify qualifying farmland <br /> within the Cedar Grove, Cane Creek/Buckhorn, High Rock/Efland, and Caldwell Voluntary Agricultural <br /> Districts; and enroll the lands in the Orange County Voluntary Agricultural District (VAD) and the Enhanced <br /> Voluntary Agricultural District (EVAD) programs. <br /> Commissioner Rich arrived at 7:39. <br /> Gail Hughes said the request is for approval to accept six farms into the program and to revise <br /> acres for one farm. She said, if approved, this would equal an increase of 1052 acres for a total of 5838 <br /> acres. The Voluntary Agriculture District (VAD) has 5347 acres and the Enhanced Voluntary Agricultural <br /> District has 491 acres. She said the farms being presented are mostly family farms that have been in the <br /> families for 75-100 years. She reviewed the designations of VAD versus EVAD. <br /> She presented slides with the following information on the farms being considered: <br /> C. Norman Walker <br /> - Caldwell District <br /> - Raises livestock, grass/hay crop, and managed woodland/forestry <br /> - VAD = 244.11 acres <br /> Kirk Farms <br /> Kenneth, Ronald, Donald, and Aaron Kirk <br /> - Cane Creek/Buckhorn District <br /> - Raises beef cattle, corn, soybeans, grains, hay/ pasture crops, and managed forestry/woodland <br /> - VAD= 278.65 acres <br /> Donald and Faye Pope <br /> - Cedar Grove District <br /> - Raises beef cattle, organic tobacco, grains, hay and pasture crops, and managed forestry <br /> - VAD = 268.63 acres <br /> John Pope Farms, LLC <br /> John H. and Kimberly Pope <br /> - Cedar Grove District <br /> - Raises poultry , corn, grains, hay crops, and managed forestry/woodland <br />
