ORANGE COUNTY ARTS
Promoting the Artistic and Cultural Development of Orange County, North Carolina
June 24, 2013
Senator Eleanor Kinnaird
North Carolina Senate
300 N. Salisbury Street, Room 628
Raleigh,NC 27603-5925
Dear Senator Kinnaird,
The Orange County Arts Commission, the organization that promotes the arts and culture of
Orange County and its townships, wishes to thank you for your support of the North Carolina
Arts Council. Funding from the North Carolina Arts Council helps to support local arts and
culture programs through local decision-making that produces the finest artistic experiences for
our local residents.
Due to your support of the North Carolina Arts Council's Grassroots Arts Program in 2012-
2013 alone, we were able to help support 20 programs that impacted over 100,000 Orange
County residents. These wonderful projects included a wide range of experiences fitting our
diverse population. Programs of Deep Dish Theater Company and FRANK Gallery, as well as
Kidzu Children's Museum and Orange County Artists Guild were all partially funded through
this state money. Your funds supported projects from the Hillsborough Arts Council's
"Handmade Parade"to the Town of Carrboro's "Carrboro Music Festival"this year. State funds
helped to support artist performances and residencies at Ephesus Road Elementary School, Estes
Hills Elementary School, Glenwood Elementary School, Grady A. Brown Elementary School,
McDougle Elementary School and McDougle Middle School.
Thank you so much for your very important fiscal support of the North Carolina Arts Council
and ask that you continue to support it at the highest level possible.
Sincerely,
Martha Shannon
Director
(919) 968-2011 ❖ www.artsorange.org ❖ arts @co.orange.nc.us ❖ Fax (919) 968-2062
501 West Franklin Street ❖ Chapel Hill - North Carolina ❖ 27516
