r <br /> 2 <br /> In October 1996, the Task Force presented its preliminary report to the Board of <br /> Commissioners. <br /> Based on the foundation of the 1996 report and the direction of the NC General <br /> Assembly, more than 30 members of the original Task Force reconvened in October 1997 <br /> to draft the Orange County Work First Plan. In addition to identifying goals, outcomes <br /> and strategies specific to Orange County's population, the Task Force developed <br /> strategies to meet the primary statewide goals of: Reducing the Work First Caseload; <br /> Putting Adults to Work; Staying Off Welfare After Going to Work; and Avoiding <br /> Welfare Through Diversion Assistance. <br /> Recommendations: <br /> The Manager recommends that the Orange County Work First Plan be accepted as <br /> information. Staff will present the final Plan for approval at the January 20, 1998 <br /> meeting. <br />
