Environmental Considerations for Access Management in the Study Area <br />17 <br />The Eno EDD — Environmental Map on page 11 depicts the topography, floodplains, <br />and wetlands in the Study Area. These environmental considerations will in some <br />locations provide challenges to the development of access management strategies <br />recommended in the Study Area. <br />Topography <br />The Study Area has gradual changes in topography except in the northwest and <br />northeast portions. Elevation with the Study Area ranges from 340 feet above sea level <br />to 550 feet above sea level. Slopes are not particularly steep even in the vicinity of <br />drainageways except in the previously noted portions. <br />Floodplains <br />Floodplains are located within the Study Area predominantly along Rhodes Creek. <br />Floodplains indicate areas of past and potential future flooding. <br />Wetlands <br />Potential wetlands have also been identified throughout the Study Area by using the <br />presence of Bottomland Hardwood Forest vegetation as an indicator for the presence of <br />wetlands. Wetlands are generally unsuitable for development and normally require <br />additional regulatory oversight and permitting by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. <br />Environmental Benefit of Access Management <br />From an environmental perspective, improved traffic flow afforded through an access <br />management plan for the Eno EDD area could also translate into greater fuel efficiency <br />and reduced vehicular emissions along the 1 -85, US 70 and Old NC 10 corridors. <br />101 Page <br />
