8
1 • The Director of Public Affairs sought direction and approval from the County Manager to
2 pursue having an official logo designed for the County to aid in helping the public
3 become more familiar with the County and its daily operations.
4 • Currently, a variety of logos are in use by several County departments. The approval of
5 these logos was done on the administrative level by the Department Directors as
6 opposed to submitting this for review and approval by the Board of County
7 Commissioners. Here are examples of these logos.
8
9 County Department Logos (image)
10
11 Orange County Logo (image)
12
13 Logo Design Process
14 • The Public Affairs Department contracted with a local graphic design firm to produce the
15 logo, which cost $1,600.
16 • The design concept is based on the direction and overall vision explained by the
17 Director of Public Affairs.
18
19 Logo Design Concept
20 • The basis for the County logo design is a clean simplistic approach, using text as
21 opposed to a series of intricate details or artwork.
22 • The colors, burgundy and sage green, offer a subtle yet striking contrast. Lastly, the
23 design places the emphasis on Orange County—while including the reference to North
24 Carolina as a way to distinguish us from the other Orange Counties in the United States.
25 • The County logo will NOT replace the County seal, but rather, it will be used to launch
26 and solidify the County's brand marketing efforts—starting with the new County
27 portfolios and marketing folders.
28 • The logo is to be phased in gradually and will be visible on a variety of items, such as
29 County letterhead, envelopes, business cards, press releases, collateral materials,
30 promotional items, etc.
31
32 Six Month Review
33
34 The following marketing materials have been developed since the Director of Public Affairs
35 started on September 17, 2012.
36 • Brochures
37 • Post Cards
38 • Posters
39 • Banners
40 • Magnets
41 • Business Cards
42 • Marketing Folders
43 • Video Productions
44 • Marketing Packet & Web site- Community Giving Fund
45 • Professional Photos and Bios of Department Directors
46 • Press Releases (100+ to date)
47 • Fabric Table Covers w/ Logo
48 • Invitations (Printed and Electronic)
49
