Data files include the following: <br /> - Road (route name and road name) <br /> - Segment description (from, to) <br /> - Distance (miles) <br /> - Pavement type (paved or unpaved) <br /> - Road type (number of lanes) <br /> - Pavement width ( feet) <br /> - Shoulder width (feet) <br /> - Paved shoulder (paved or unpaved) <br /> - Right-of-way width (feet) <br /> - County land use designation <br /> - Existing land use along road frontage (percent agricultural, <br /> residential, industrial, or commercial •-- remainder assumed <br /> undeveloped) <br /> - Type of control at termini (stop sign, :signal, none) <br /> - Speed limit (MPH) <br /> - Advisory speed on curve (MPH) <br /> - Terrain (level, rolling, mountainous ) <br /> - Historic traffic counts (vehicles per diiy) <br /> - Projected traffic volumes (vehicles per day) <br /> - County road classification (existing classification) <br /> - NCDOT road classification <br /> - Recommended classification <br /> - Comments (Township and other comments) <br /> Classification Criteria <br /> Upon evaluating the above data as well as the geographic <br /> relationships of roads to adjacent counties and to cities and major <br /> destinations within Orange County, the following classifications we: <br /> determined to best describe the public roads in Orange County outsi< <br /> of the urbanized planning boundaries: <br /> Principal Arterial <br /> Minor Arterial <br /> Collector <br /> Major Local <br /> Minor Local <br /> These classifications are a refinement of the current NCDOT <br /> classifications used in the County Land Use Plan. The definition of <br /> a road classification is subjective and qualitative; and subsequentl <br /> so is its application to a road system.
