101 <br /> PROPOSED PLAN AMENDMENT <br /> PLAN: Land Use Element of the Orange County Comprehensive Plan <br /> REFERENCE: Section 3.8 Cheeks Township <br /> ORIGIN OF AMENDMENT: X Staff Planning Board <br /> X BOCC Public <br /> Other: <br /> Expected Public Hearing Date: November 24, 1997 <br /> Purpose of Amendment: To insure compatibility with the road functional classifications(Section 2.6)of the <br /> Transportation Element of the Comprehensive Plan. <br /> Background: This amendment is needed because of the changes to Section 2.6 - TRANSPORTATION of the <br /> Comprehensive Plan. <br /> Existing and proposed plan text: (strike through text to be deleted and underlined text to be inserted) <br /> Cron <br /> A modified version of the North Carolina Highway Functional Classification System is used to describe <br /> Orange County's road network (see Section 2.6 - TRANSPORTATION of this plan for complete <br /> description). This system describes parts of the network according to mobility .md access factors. The most <br /> important roads, Interstates and arterial highways, provide the shortest travel time and best service between <br /> important activity centers. Roads of lesser importance, collector roads, do not provide as high a level of <br /> service, but do provide large areas with access to major roads. Local roads have the most limited service <br /> capacity, but in the aggregate serve to provide large land areas with access to tae collector and arterial <br /> systems. <br /> Cheeks Township contains the principal east-west transportation corridor through Orange County. Nine and <br /> one-half miles of interstate highway (I-85), over seven miles of a maje arterial. highway (US 70), eight miles <br /> of rail line (Southern RR) and several miles of locally important roads make up this corridor. The prineipetl <br /> collector routes are: N. Efland Cedar Grove Road (SR 1004-1357), S. Efland (7edar Grove Road (SR 1004). <br /> Forrest Ave (SR 1322). I-85 Connector. Buckhorn Road (SR 1114), Mt. Willing Road (SR 1120), Mebane <br /> Oaks Road (SR 1007), Bowman Road (SR 1142), West Ten Road (SR 1144), Lebanon Road (SR 1306) and <br /> Mill Creek Road (SR 1343). <br /> Planning Board: 10-14-97 <br /> BOCC: <br />
