38 <br /> ITEM 7 <br /> AGENDA ITEM <br /> • RECEIPT OF COMMENTS FROM CARRBORO AND CHAPEL HILL REGARDING <br /> CANE CREEK WATER SUPPLY RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> PURPOSE <br /> • To receive watershed protection comments solicited from Carrboro and Chapel Hill. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> • On June 26, 199'7 the Board of Directors endorsed Provisional Recommendations for <br /> Protecting the Cane Creek Water Supply. It was the Board's intent to solicit comments <br /> and/or endorsements from Carrboro and Chapel Hill and then consider further revisions <br /> that might be suggested before presenting a final package to the Orange County <br /> Commissioners. <br /> • Hairy Jacobs and Alan Rimer presented the.Provisional Recommendations in person to <br /> the Chapel Hill Town Council and Cartboro Board of Aldermen on August 25 and 26. <br /> Both bodies have considered the recoons and responded to OWASA as <br /> requested. <br /> • Comments from both Canboro and Chapel Hill are supportive,but offer additional points <br /> of emphasis for OWASA aid the County Commissioners. These will be incorporated as <br /> appropriate into Awl Recommendations to be prepared for Board consideration on <br /> October 23. <br /> • A schedule of the overall County approval process,which will likely take until August, <br /> 1998,is attached as information <br /> ACTION NEEDED <br /> • Receive the comments submitted by Canton and Chapel Hill.
