I run the Adapted Recreation and Inclusion program, which provides adapted
programming, inclusion support and consultation with parks & recreation staff to help include people
with disabilities/special needs in Parks & Recreation activities.
One program that we offer year-round is Adapted Aquatics, where volunteers and a
specialized aquatics teacher help children and teens with a variety of disabilities learn to swim. We've
had students who were afraid of the water at their first lesson to eventually be on the swim team.
These aquatics students get very attached to their volunteers, who often continue working with them
for a number of years.
I am looking forward to working with Barbara Tyroler, using photography as a supplementary
tool for documenting and illustrating this program. The photos will be used as gift for the students,
who are always so proud of their accomplishments in class as well as for a lovely thank you for the
volunteers who put their hearts and souls into working one-to-one with the children and teens. As
well, they will be used for publicity materials for the Adapted Recreation program. We will be working
together during the time period between July 1, 2013 - June 30, 2014.
Thank you,
Marian as ovsky MS, LRT/CTRS
Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation
