education and exhibition. If finances allow, the Committee will send filmmakers
who won awards last year into area schools to work with children in
understanding the basics of both narrative and documentary film. The committee
will interact with college and university programs in our community to encourage
college students to take the "plunge" into the world of festivals. We have already
reached out to all Universities, colleges, public schools (K-12) calling for entries
so that students have the summer to create a film.
Judging is a two-step process, with the Film Festival Committee members
narrowing down the entrants to pick finalists in each category. There is a blue
ribbon judging panel made up of local area experts in the film industry who will
select the final award winners. Winners are awarded the coveted & beautiful
statues created by Carrboro's own sculptor Mike Roig as well as a few cash
prizes.
