The ArtsCenter:2013-2014 School Show Series I <br /> The ArtsCenter's Organizational Profile <br /> Over the course of its thirty-nine year history, The ArtsCenter in Carrboro, NC has grown from a single <br /> painting class into a vibrant and dynamic multi-purpose, multi-disciplinary,grass roots community arts center <br /> serving more than 84,000 people of all ages and walks of life. Constituents come mostly from Orange County <br /> and four surrounding counties in North Carolina, although audience members travel from throughout North <br /> Carolina and even from other states to attend specific music and theater performances presented during the <br /> year in the 355 seat Earl and Rhoda Wynn Theater. Attendees at music and theatre come from Chapel Hill & <br /> Carrboro (39%) and Durham & Raleigh (32%). <br /> The ArtsCenter is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. It <br /> is governed by a board of directors which establishes policy, ensures that there are adequate financial resources <br /> for the organization to accomplish its mission, ensures that earmarked funds are managed according to the <br /> stipulation of funders, manages the organization's assets to protect its future and ensures that financial controls <br /> are in place. <br /> Mission: The ArtsCenter exists in order to inspire creativity and to enrich the lives of people of all ages. <br /> Vision: We envision a world in which people embrace the arts as a critical component of daily life. <br /> Guiding Values: Sustainability; Excellence;Accountability; and Inclusivity. <br /> Current Programs and Services <br /> The ArtsCenter is organized into five programmatic departments. <br /> ArtSchool. ArtSchool at The ArtsCenter is Orange County's most comprehensive non-profit resource for <br /> continuing education in the arts on a non-degree, community basis.The ArtSchool now offers more than 500 <br /> classes in all artistic disciplines for all experience levels and ages, awards more than 50 scholarships annually, and <br /> offers work-study opportunities. <br /> Youth Programs.The ArtsCenter has provided artistically excellent, age-appropriate and accessible arts <br /> experiences to Triangle families for more than 30 years. Currently,The ArtsCenter offers the School Show Series, <br /> the SuperFun Series for family audiences,ArtsCamp in the summer,AfterSchool Arts Immersion and Arts in Education <br /> during the school year to area youth and families. Also, Youth Arts Classes offer fine art classes and workshops in <br /> acting, musical theatre, dance, chorus, stage combat, radio drama, acting for the camera, and improv. Combined, <br /> The ArtsCenter's youth programs reach approximately 26,000 children in up to five counties. <br /> Theatre. International theatre at its most local, ArtsCenter Stage showcases the work of emerging and <br /> established artists hailing from next door to around the world.ArtsCenter Stage features new works with a <br /> historical perspective,while its second-stage series includes improvisation and storytelling, musicals and operas, <br /> stand-up comedy and film screenings, new works in development and theatre for younger and older audiences. <br /> ArtsCenter Stage is community-oriented theatre with a commitment to developing new artists and audiences. <br /> Concerts. The ArtsCenter presents some 60 concerts for adults each year, representing the spectrum of <br /> musical genres by local, emerging, and nationally touring artists including folk, blues, Celtic, rock, singer- <br /> songwriter, Louisiana French, old-time, and bluegrass. <br /> Gallery. The Nicholson Gallery features the work of local and regional artists on a rotating basis and highlights <br /> the work of more than 100 local and regional artists in 12 exhibitions a year. <br /> Proposed Uses of Grant Funds <br /> The ArtsCenter's School Show Series brings learning to life through more than 20,000 experiences for area <br /> youth each year. Through a combination of shows on-site at The ArtsCenter for groups on field trips and shows <br /> booked in area schools,the School Show Series makes a significant impact on students in Orange County.These <br /> programs ensure that the arts remain a meaningful part of students' education and provide opportunities to area <br /> youth to see new things, learn about different art forms, as well as different cultures. <br />
