2013-2014 Arts Program Grant—Spring 7
Orange County Arts Commission
The ArtsCenter: School Show Series
debut in 2010. In addition to their extensive performing schedule, the Trio is dedicated to arts
education, inspiring a whole new generation of concert going music lovers. PROJECT Trio has
performed for over 100,000 students on 3 continents, including over 35 states in the US. With
appearances on popular TV shows on Nickelodeon and MTV, PROJECT Trio is instantly recognizable to
students of all ages. By presenting instrumental music fused with hip-hop, rock, and pop, PROJECT Trio
truly bridges the gap between classical music and pop culture.
Information from artist's website (http://www.projecttrio.com/)
SOUL STREET DANCE COMPANY: Soul Street Dance, a company from Houston, TX (Spring
Branch) which was created by former members of Fly Dance Company, is unique for their way of
incorporating different styles of street dance. Under the direction of Javier Garcia, Soul Street presents
a new era in dance. While pushing the artistic boundaries in street dance, they maintain the true
essence of the culture.
The history of the company dates back to 1996, as a self-taught street crew competing for recognition
in the Houston area. They quickly caught the attention of the artistic director of Fly Dance Company.
They then became the company's principal dancers and helped turn Fly into a national touring sensation.
Soul Street concerts consist of high-energy movement that will keep you at the edge of your seat. The
music is an eclectic mix ranging from hip-hop to classical. It's a show that will make you laugh and keep
audiences of all ages entertained. In conjunction with concerts, Soul Street offers educational and
outreach performances that have taken audiences of more than 300,000 by storm across the country.
Information from artist's website (http://Souistreetdonce.com)
THEATREWORKS USA: The mission of Theatreworks USA is to create, produce, and provide
access to professional theatre for young and family audiences nationwide, including disadvantaged youth
and under-served communities. In addition, Theatreworks USA has an extensive
multi-cultural roster of guest artists, including storytellers, puppeteers, poets, and magicians. The
overarching goals of Theatreworks' programs are to: Create literary- and historically-based shows that
stimulate reading and discussion on the cultural, historical, and/or social issues and themes represented
in each show. Foster and nurture the wealth of talent that exists in young writers. Encourage young
people to tap into their own reservoirs of creativity and talent. Present role models and encourage
positive values through the shows' content.
