GUY DAVIS: Guy Davis is a blues musician, composer, actor, director, and writer. Davis has done
residencies teaching about the blues to children at such prestigious locations as the Lincoln Center,
NYC and Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. For this show, Guy will perform on the guitar and
harmonica and present the traditional blues music and stories from the Mississippi Delta, providing both
a geography and history lesson deeply rooted in the Black experience in America, making this a great
celebration of African-American History, as well as exploration of music for students.
Mr. Davis, notably the son of actors Ossie Davis, a Kennedy Center honoree, and Ruby Dee, an
Academy Award winner, is a musician, composer, actor, director, and writer of worldwide acclaim. He
performs solo, with his guitar, sharing heartfelt blues songs and stories. Guy grew up in a middle-class
New York suburb and always had an interest in the varied experiences of some of his family members'
lives and struggles in other parts of the country. That tied in with a special passion for acoustic blues
music and, while he has had great acting experience, his current focus is his music and sharing that with
eager crowds. Guy's television appearances include `Late Night with Conan O'Brien' and he has
appeared on nationally syndicated radio shows including Garrison Keillor's `A Prairie Home Companion'
and David Dye's `World Cafe'.
As an educator Guy has performed residency programs for the Lincoln Center Institute, the Kennedy
Center, the State Theatre in New Jersey, and works with "Young Audiences of NJ", doing classroom
workshops and assembly programs all across the country, and in Canada for elementary, high school,
and college students.
