Carrboro Music Festival I Clubs & Concerts I Indy Week Page 1 of 2
This is a past event.
Carrboro Music Festival
When: Sun., Sept. 30, 12 p.m.-2 a.m. 2012
Price: Free
www.carrboromusicfestival.com
Around Town—As the "Paris of the Piedmont," Carrboro's no stranger to showing off its cultural
flair. Every year on a Sunday afternoon in early autumn, it decidedly kicks things up a notch with
the Carrboro Music Festival. This year, the town hosts 180 acts across 25 venues. Patrons can
bounce freely from coffee shop to Cat's Cradle to lumber company to hear some of the area's best
acts.
The sheer number of bands performing guarantees there'll be something for everyone. Fans of
polka, brass and Jewish dance music can get their kicks with the Magnolia Klezmer Band.
Bluegrass pickers can grin along to Big Fat Gap. Hip-hop heads take note that Toon & the Real
Laww will be on hand to educate. There'll also be indie explorations (care of TOW311S), top-notch
Americana (thanks to the Magnolia Collective), seething surf-rock (see Killer Filler) and at least one
brass band (the aptly named N.C. Saxophone Ensemble). It's a daunting list of acts peppered with
old favorites (Lud) and funny new names (See No Weevil). Thankfully, the spread of venues only
stretches from the yard at The Looking Glass to the parking lot at Jessee's Coffee—approximately
0.8 miles. The Champs-lysees could hardly do better. And it's all free.
