Music Festival Biographies <br /> Some of the musicians who played their first Carrboro Music Festival in 2012: <br /> Lamont Coal- Armadillo Grill; 7:00- Lamont Coal chops up samples anywhere from classic <br /> soul to to-fi blues or world chants. Next, he mixes in break-beats, dubstep synths or vintage drum <br /> hits. With all these sounds at his fingertips,each show is a unique electronic experience. Don't be <br /> surprised if he shows up to the gig with some guest emcees to showcase their rhymes. <br /> Onjukai- ArtsCenter West End Theater; 7:00- The Onjukai group is a unique harmony trio. <br /> They play a koto,a flute, and a viola and perform contemporary and traditional Japanese music. <br /> Motrendus- Auto Logic; 4:15- Frank, Pete,Billy and Steve,they are each a musical soul from a <br /> different place... each of them had travelled far and wide seeking creative solace, 'til one day in <br /> 2010, they found one another... and thus Motrendus was born... some folks think Motrendus is <br /> many flavors of rock boiled down into one .. some folks just run scared into the "high country"... <br /> we'll meet you up on the ridge, overlooking tomorrow... peace brothers and sisters... <br /> Tea Cup Gin-Balanced Movement Studio; 5:00- Tea Cup Gin plays jazz and show tunes from <br /> early 20th century. One of the most influential periods of American music, the early 1900s <br /> witnessed the first published blues, the explosion of ragtime, and the birth of jazz. They draw <br /> inspiration from performers such as Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller, Hoagy Carmichael, W.C. <br /> Handy, and Billie Holiday. With two guitars, a bass, and vocals,their performances are <br /> reminiscent of parlor music. <br /> The Melobellies-Balloons and Tunes/Framer's Corner; 6:00- Front man for The Melobellies, <br /> Joseph North writes songs that touch the heart,tickle the funny-bone, and make you stop and <br /> think, but most of all,they make you want to tap your foot and sing along. Born in New York <br /> City, the multi-instrumentalist with the shaky voice finds inspiration from the people he's met <br /> traveling across the country, history, current events, and whatever happens to be playing in his <br /> head when he wakes up each day. <br /> Dark Water Rising- Cat's Cradle; 4:30- Led by Charly Lowry(lead singer/rhythm guitar), <br /> Aaron Locklear(keys/guitar/bass), Corey Locklear(lead guitar/cello/bass), and Shay Jones <br /> (drums),the band works to harness the sounds of Soul, Rock, Country, and R&B. Lyrically they <br /> explore all themes of life, whether it is love,heartbreak, sacrifice, celebration, despair, or pain; <br /> all the while expressing their sentiment on issues affecting Native American communities. <br /> Following the success of their debut, DWR is making plans to records their sophomore album. <br /> "Dark Water Rising" helped to open the doors for performances throughout the Southeastern US, <br /> considerable radio airplay, a distinguished interview with NPR's "The Story with Dick Gordon <br /> and a Native American Music Award for "Debut Duo or Group of the Year"(2010). <br /> Capital Transit- Century Center; 3:00- Capital Transit members are all professional jazz singers <br /> and musicians in the Triangle. Lola, Laura, Tim and Ben have known each other for years, but <br /> they just recently found out that they can create a great sound together using their 4 voices and <br /> the many instruments they play.
