4 <br /> • The relationship between existing and proposed school sites, and proposed <br /> parks; <br /> • The development of "small area plans" in the northern portions of Chapel Hill <br /> and Carrboro and the impact, if any, that proposed park sites in those areas <br /> would have on the need for "County" facilities; <br /> • The utilization of landfill and reservoir sites, both existing and proposed, as <br /> possible recreation sites; <br /> • The discussion of strategies for preserving natural and cultural resources <br /> through open space design, including the relationship of these resources to <br /> active and passive recreational pursuits; and <br /> • The evolution of a Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for the Town of <br /> Hillsborough and the role the Town would play in the provision of recreational <br /> facilities. <br /> 5/5/97 A draft Charge for a work group including the school boards and municipalities <br /> was approved by.the Board of Commissioners. The purpose of the work group <br /> was to prepare an update of the Orange County Master Recreation and Parks <br /> Plan. <br /> 5/21/97 The Managers of Orange County, Carrboro and Chapel Hill presented a report to the <br /> Board of Commissioners with a plan of action to address the recommendations of the <br /> work group report. The plan of action included the following recommendation: <br /> "Modify the purpose of the Orange County Recreation and Parks Master Plan <br /> to be a joint long-range capital facility plan for Carrboro, Chapel Hill and <br /> Orange County." <br /> 8/97 The Commissioner's goals for fiscal year 1997-98 were adopted. The goals included <br /> modifying the purpose of the Orange County Recreation and Parks Master Plan to <br /> be a joint capital facilities plan for Carrboro,Chapel Hill and Orange County. <br /> 9/97 A letter was sent from the Orange County Manager to the Carrboro and Chapel Hill <br /> Managers requesting confirmation of interest in developing a joint capital facilities for <br /> recreation and parks,and designation of appointees to work group. <br /> 9/97 A response was received from Carrboro concerning appointees to the work group. <br /> 10/21/97 A revised work group charge will be submitted to the Board of Commissioners <br /> for adoption. <br />
