32 <br /> j4, Coordinate and implement fraud, abuse, and waste detection. -. <br /> prosecution, and prevention activities between local Rro,am <br /> integ*ity workers, local district attornev's offices. and the State: <br /> Keep the Secretary of Health and Human Services informed <br /> concerning fraud. abuse. waste, and deficiencies relating to means- <br /> tested public assistance ,programs administered or financed by the <br /> Department of Health and Human Services. recommend corrective <br /> action concerning fraud. abuses. and deficiencies, and renort to the <br /> Secretary and the Joint Legislative Public Assistance Commission <br /> on the progress made in implementing corrective action: <br /> Ensure effective coordination and cooperation between the State <br /> Auditor, federal auditors. the Department of Health and Human <br /> Services. and other governmental bodies in fraud.abuse. and waste <br /> detection. prosecution. and prevention activities relating to means- <br /> tested public assistance programs with a view toward avoiding <br /> duplication: and <br /> m Educate State and local law enforcement agencies concerning <br /> fraud. abuse. and waste detection. prosecution. and prevention in <br /> public assistance progms and encourage pursuit of prosecution of <br /> violations. <br /> Cc) The Inspector General shall be apooin^ ted by the Attorney General and shall <br /> report to an official designated by the Attorney General The Inspector General shall <br /> be annointed without regard to_,political affiliation <br /> d The e t removed from office by the A rnev General. <br /> el The Inspector General' shall have access to any records. data. or other <br /> information of the Department of Health and Human Services and local county <br /> agencies the Inspector General believes necessary to carry out the inspector General's <br /> duties The Inspector General may request any information or assistance as may be - <br /> necessary from the Department or from-any federal State or local government entity. <br /> "& 114-41.
