Attacnment t <br /> C7000-9/97 <br /> TELECOMMUNICATOR I <br /> GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br /> Performs intermediate technical and clerical work on an assigned or rotating shift <br /> dispatching public safety and rescue personnel and equipment usually in response to <br /> emergency situations; does related work as required. <br /> Work is performed under regular supervision. <br /> TYPICAL TASKS: <br /> Receives emergency and non-emergency incoming calls; classifies calls by type; obtains <br /> detailed information including directions and relays information to EMS, law <br /> enforcement, fire, rescue or other agency; <br /> Operates radios,telephone,recording devices and computer terminals and monitors alarm <br /> systems; <br /> Receives complaints via telephone,computer,radio and in person; forwards information <br /> to appropriate agencies and makes records of calls; <br /> Enters information into Division of Criminal Investigation(DCI) and National Crime <br /> Information Center(NCIC)networks; <br /> Provides pre-arrival medical instructions using established protocols to assist citizens <br /> prior to the arrival of emergency responders; <br /> Provides appropriate information on hazardous materials to responders; <br /> Provides guidance and direction in the emergency operations center when a major <br /> disaster occurs; <br /> Contacts wrecker companies as requested; <br /> Performs related tasks as required. <br /> KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br /> Some knowledge of the methods of operating the communication system; general <br /> knowledge of radio and telecommunication procedures; some knowledge of the <br /> geography of the County and location of landmarks;thorough knowledge of grammar and <br /> spelling; some knowledge of public safety operations; some knowledge of Federal and <br /> State regulations governing transmission by radio; ability to type at a reasonable rate of <br /> speed; ability to speak distinctly; ability to deal with public under stressful conditions. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br /> Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school <br /> and one year communications experience including at least six months <br /> typing/keyboarding experience. <br /> SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: <br /> Within six months must possess Division of Criminal Information(DCI), Emergency <br /> Medical Dispatch(EMD)and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation(CPR)certifications; and <br /> have passed the Basic Telecommunicator Training Course. Within one year,must <br /> possess the Incident Command System(ICS)certification and complete the Hazmat <br /> Awareness level training course. <br />
