W side SR 1357 appx. 1400 ft N of jet w/SR 5800 Efland-Cedar Grove Ro <br /> 1004 <br /> DESCRIPTION <br /> This house was built for the village miller and originally consisted of four rooms located in the back of the house. The front block was <br /> constructed in the early 1920s. This-1-story,triple-A structure is covered in vinyl siding;the windows are 1/1 double-hung,and the front door <br /> contains two panels and a screen door. The first miller to occupy the house was Hastings Gentry. Coy Whitaker is believed to be the third and <br /> last miller to occupy the house. During his tenure in the 1930s,the flour mill,located on the current site of the Ligon Commercial Building(19) <br /> was destroyed by fire. The Cudes then bought the house and added the ell. Eber Cude taught at the Aycock school and later became principal. <br /> 27a Garage mod. bldg. <br /> DESCRIPTION <br /> late 20th-century frame front-gabled <br /> 28 Woodland C site W side SR 1357 beginning appx.800 ft.N of <br /> jct w/SR 1004 <br /> DESCRIPTION <br /> This 8.5 acre tract of land has historically been woodland according to 1938 United State Department of Agriculture aerial view maps(located <br /> at the NC Division of Archives and History,Raleigh,NC)and long-time residents of Cedar Grove. The configuration of the treeline contributes <br /> to the delineation of the historic field patterns of adjacent cultivated fields. The tract of land has historically belonged to the Hughes family of <br /> Cedar Grove(interview with Virginia Hughes Boland August 18, 1997). <br />
