S side SR 1004 appx. 500 ft W of jct w/SR <br /> 1357 <br /> DESCRIPTION <br /> Coleman Burch constructed the 1-story triple-A frame house in the 1880s. The hall-and-parlor-plan structure is sheathed in weatherboard. The <br /> original entry doors are lit with paired pains above three panels and are covered with spindled and bracketed screen doors. The cornices are <br /> returned at the gable diamond-shaped attic vents pierce all three gables. The house is also characterized by a central ridgeline brick chimney <br /> and a three-quarter length porch with chamfered posts and sawnwork. A rear ell exhibits an exterior brick end chimney,a projecting gable- <br /> roofed entry,and two entry doors on each facade. The Burches boarded female students of Cedar Grove Academy. About 1904,Mary(known <br /> as Mollie)Malone,the widow of John Malone,bought the house and lived there until her death in 1929(Sexton interview with Griffen& <br /> Haley,February 25, 1995). The family eventually gave the property to the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church(Graybeal interview with <br /> Lois Hughes,July 23, 1997). <br /> 08 Hayes-Hall House C bldg. S side SR 1004 appx.600 ft W of jet w/SR <br /> 1357 <br /> DESCRIPTION <br /> Jim Hayes built this I-story triple-A frame house in the 1980s. The house is sheathed in weatherboard and features 2/2 double-hung windows, <br /> chamfered porch posts,and a star-motif attic vent located on the front gable. Hayes and his wife Maggie Taylor originally occupied the house. <br /> The Hall family inherited the house during the early 1910s and boarded Cedar Grove Academy students here. Simeon J.Hall was Chairman of <br /> the Board of Trustees for the Academy in 1892 and 1893(Graybeal interview with Lois Hughes,July 23, 1997/Sexton interview with Estelle <br /> Haley and Lois Hughes,February 1995). <br />
