A sense of continuity is <br /> lent in that many descendants of Cedar Grove's early founders reside in the <br /> community today and maintain substantial family homeplaces. <br /> NEXT STEPS IN THE NOMINATION PROCESS <br /> After the public hearing, the Cedar Grove Rural Crossroads National Register <br /> nomination will proceed as follows: <br /> August 27 HPC will vote on a recommendation to forward the <br /> draft nomination to SHPO. <br /> September 16 Board of County Commissioners (BOCC)considers <br /> HPC recommendation. If approved, draft nomination <br /> will be forwarded to SHPO for review and approval. <br /> November 10 SHPO notifies Orange County of acceptance and <br /> approval of nomination; commences 60-day review <br /> period for comment on the nomination. <br /> November 25 HPC holds public hearing on nomination as required <br /> by the Certification Agreement for Local Governments; <br /> forwards recommendation for approval to BOCC. <br /> December 1 BOCC comments on final, state-approved <br /> nomination; forwards recommendation to SHPO. <br /> January 8, 1998 Nomination considered by National Register Advisory <br /> Committee (NRAC) <br /> If approved by the NRAC, the nomination will be considered by the National <br /> Park Service and the Keeper of the National Register. If approved by the <br /> National Park Service, official listing on the National Register of Historic <br /> Places could occur in March, 1998. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Administration Recommendation <br /> The Administration recommends the Cedar Grove Rural Crossroads Historic <br /> District National Register nomination be referred to the Historic Preservation <br /> Commission for a recommendation to be returned to the Board of County <br /> Commissioners no sooner than September 16, 1997 <br />
