ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: August 4, 1997 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. g_t <br /> SUBJECT: Renewal of Sheriff-UNC Special Events Coverage Agreement <br /> DEPARTMENT: Sheriff PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/1) <br /> BUDGET AMENDMENT: (Y/N) <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Proposed Agreement Sheriffs Office, ext 2900 <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br /> Hillsborough 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill 9684501 <br /> Durham 688-7331 <br /> Mebane 227-2031 <br /> PURPOSE: To consider renewing the contract between Orange County and the University of <br /> North Carolina at Chapel Hill for security and the provision of law enforcement at certain major <br /> University events. <br /> BACKGROUND: In September 1993,the Board approved an agreement with the University <br /> whereby the Sheriffs Department provides sworn law enforcement officers for security and law <br /> enforcement coverage at special events such as football and basketball games and concerts at the <br /> Smith Center. The University reimburses the County fully for salary and benefit payments and for <br /> the cost of any County equipment used in providing the service. The agreement is proposed to <br /> continue for the 1997-98 academic year with scope and terms identical to the agreement that was <br /> originally approved by the Board of Commissioners. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the proposed <br /> contract and authorize the Manager to sign it. <br />
