C4032-6/97 <br /> ELECTRICIAN 21 <br /> GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br /> Performs difficult technical work in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical <br /> systems, equipment and fixtures; does related work as required. <br /> Work is performed under general supervision. Serve as lead worker on electrical projects <br /> with other skilled and semi-skilled employees. <br /> TYPICAL TASKS: <br /> Installs, repairs and replaces electrical circuits, distribution panels, receptacles, switches, <br /> light fixtures, including fluorescent ballast and tubes, incandescent bulbs, and other <br /> electrical devices; <br /> Designs and installs electrical circuits and systems for renovations and new equipment, <br /> including computers; <br /> Determines the type, size and quality of wires,panel boards, switch boxes and other <br /> equipment necessary to perform the job; <br /> Troubleshoots, locates and diagnoses trouble occurring in buzzers,thermostats, shop <br /> equipment and building electrical systems and makes necessary repairs; <br /> Reads and understands electrical schematics, blueprints, services manuals, and data on <br /> equipment to diagnose problems; <br /> Estimates and purchases materials needed for construction or repair jobs; maintains a <br /> stock of frequently used supplies; <br /> Reads wiring diagrams; wires, diagnoses and repairs control panels; <br /> Installs computer network cabling and connections; <br /> Trains other mechanics to perform electrical work; <br /> Performs general maintenance work orders including HVAC,plumbing, carpentry, <br /> painting and general services such as moving and deliveries; <br /> Performs related tasks as required. <br /> KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br /> Thorough knowledge of procedures,techniques, materials and equipment used in the <br /> installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems. Thorough knowledge of the <br /> principles of electricity and their practical applications. Thorough knowledge of the <br /> hazards and the applicable safety precaution of electrical work. Thorough knowledge of <br /> electrical codes applicable to this area. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and <br /> specifications. Ability to detect malfunctions, analyze causes and take remedial action <br /> rapidly and effectively. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br /> Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school <br /> and at least 5 years experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical <br /> systems. <br /> SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: <br /> Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. <br /> Certified as licensed Electrician in the State of North Carolina. <br />
