No
ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT:
PAM JONES, ext. 2650
Telephone Number-
Hillsborough 732-8181
Chapel Hill 967-9251
Mebane 227-2031
Durham 688-7331
PURPOSE: To authorize the Purchasing Director to award a bid for improvements to
the tennis courts at Orange High School.
BACKGROUND: Funds to provide improvements to the tennis courts at Orange High
School are included in the Capital Improvements Plans for both the County and Orange
County Schools. Due to delays in determining the most appropriate solution to tennis
court resurfacing, bids were not solicited in time to be received before the last BOCC
meeting this fiscal year. Bids are due to be received on July 8.
In order to ensure that the courts are available when the tennis season begins on
August 1, it is requested that the Board authorize the Purchasing Director to award the
bids, up to a total of $45,000 in County funds, which are currently available in the CIP
and ear-marked for this project. Since the County and the Schools will share the cost
equally, this would mean that a bid for$90,000 or less could be awarded.
An agenda item would be presented to the Board during their August 4, 1997 meeting
confirming the action taken by the Purchasing Director and citing the exact amount of
the bid awarded.
RECOMMENDATION: Given that the funds are available in the CIP for this project, the
Manager recommends that the Board authorize the Purchasing Director to award a bid
for tennis court improvements at Orange High School in an amount not to exceed
$45,000 in County funds.
