1 ORANGE COUNTY Board of Commissioners Action Agenda Item No. 8-11 Action Agenda Item Abstract Meeting Date: June 30, 1997 Subject: Contracts between the Orange County Health Department and the UNC School of Pharmacy Department: HEALTH Public Hearing Yes X No Budget Amendment Needed Yes No Attachments(s): Information Contact: (1) Contract for FY96-97 Health Director's Office X2411 (2) Contract for FY97-98 Telephone Number Hillsborough- 732-8181 Chapel Hill - 968-4501 Mebane -227-2031 Durham - 688-7331 Purpose: To approve professional contracts between the Orange County Health Department and the UNC School of Pharmacy to provide consultant pharmacy services which are required by law in order for the Health Department to dispense prescription medications to its patients. Background: The UNC School of Pharmacy has provided the professional services of a consulting pharmacist since 1987. A Contract for the current fiscal year and the next fiscal year are presented for approval. This arrangement is beneficial to the Health Department as a cost effective means of assuring that pharmacy services meet all applicable laws,regulations and standards. The terms, duties and dollar amounts for the pharmacy contract remain unchanged. Funds necessary for this contract are included in the approved budget for FY96-97 and the recommended budget for FY97-98. The School of Pharmacy has provided the services in the current fiscal year in a satisfactory manner. The School is responsible for initiating the contract,but realized that they had not done so when they were preparing the year-end billing. Therefore,they submitted both contracts concurrently. Recommendation: The Manager recommends that the contract be approved, subject to final review and approval of contract language by the County Attorney and that the Chair be authorized to sign the contract.
