4
SPECIAL GRANTMAKING PROGRAM
The Foundation will be distributing up to $150,000 in grants through a special program
in our Fall 1997 grant cycle. Applications will be considered from nonprofit
organizations, government agencies, and religious congregations. Nonprofit
organizations must be tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue
Code. Neighborhood associations, civic groups, and other community associations
interested in applying may affiliate with an eligible organization for the purposes of this
application. The Foundation will make grants from this fund in the $5,000425,000
range.
Grants will support:
• Programs that promote and nurture written expression.
• Programs of urban design and planning, whose goal is to revitalize or beautify the
downtown areas of cities within the Foundation's service area.
• Programs that demonstrate regional collaboration, especially in the areas of regional
planning and economic development. These programs ideally would benefit
communities throughout the Foundation's entire service area, including Wake,
Durham, Orange, and Chatham counties.
The Foundation is particularly interested in, but not limited to, start-up or innovative
projects or projects that eliminate any duplication of services in these areas. Please use
the attached grant application.
