2
BACKGROUND: with the survey, this project could immensely heighten the awareness
(continued) of the status and trends of agriculture in Orange County.
An excellent opportunity exists to obtain funding to accomplish this
education and outreach effort. On June 17, the Planning Department
received information on the Fall 1997 funding cycle for the Triangle
Community Foundation grant program. TCF grants range from
$5,000 to $25,000, and do not require a cash match. Grants are
awarded to worthy proposals that will benefit the citizens of Wake,
Orange, and Durham counties. (Detailed information on the Triangle
Community Foundation grant program is attached.)
Planning Staff, in conjunction with the ADAB, wishes to act on this
opportunity to possibly fund the survey and education/outreach effort
At their meeting of June 18, the ADAB recommended that Staff pursue
this potential funding avenue, and to request the approval of the BOCC
to apply for a grant. Staff requests permission to apply at this time in
order to prepare a proposal during the month of July. (The deadline
for applications is Friday, August 1, 1997.) However, since the
BOCC will not meet in July, there was insufficient time to prepare a
complete application and proposal prior to the June 30 meeting. The
formal application will be made available to the BOCC as soon as it is
completed.
RECONEWENDATION: The Administration recommends approval of the request to apply for a
Triangle Community Foundation Grant.
