Yes No <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> PAM JONES, ext. 2650 <br /> Letter of request Telephone Number- <br /> Checklist Hillsborough 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill 967-9251 <br /> License Mebane 227-2031 <br /> Site layout for pyrotechnics display Durham 688-7331 <br /> Inventory of shells to be used during display <br /> Certificate of Insurance <br /> Permit <br /> PURPOSE: To consider approving a pyrotechnics permit for Orange County Speedway. <br /> BACKGROUND: Orange County Speedway has requested that the County Commissioners <br /> approve a pyrotechnics permit for the fireworks display which is scheduled for July 3, 1997 <br /> (rain date July 5, 1997) in conjunction with the regularly scheduled race. <br /> GS 14-414, indicates that the Board shall consider a fireworks permit for"any and all kinds <br /> of fireworks and explosives, which are used for exhibitions or amusement purposes." <br /> GS 14-413 empowers the Commissioner to authorize and issue permits for the use of <br /> pyrotechnics in connection with "...shows of all descriptions...but only after satisfactory <br /> evidence is produced to the effect that said pyrotechnics will be used for the aforementioned <br /> purposes and none other." <br /> County policy further requires assurance from the sponsoring agency that adequate public <br /> safety measures will be exercised; and that the County will be protected as an additional <br /> insured on the insurance policy(ies) covering the event. <br /> Documents attached satisfy the checklist criteria previously endorsed by the <br /> Commissioners. It may be of interest to the Board that the Fire Code, as modified in 1996, <br /> allows the local fire official to specify that a plan must be developed to ensure adequate <br /> coverage for fire and emergency medical services if he/she believes that the specific public <br />
