Kittrell, Assistant County Manager <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBERS: -- ext. 2300 <br /> Hillsborough 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br /> Durham 688-7331 <br /> Mebane 227-2031 <br /> PURPOSE: To review the park design for the Efland-Cheeks Community School Park. <br /> BACKGROUND: On June 3, 1996 the Board adopted a resolution establishing the Efland-Cheeks <br /> Community School Park Task Force and authorizing this group to develop a comprehensive plan for <br /> design for a park. The task force composed of representatives from the County School Board, <br /> Efland-Cheeks School PTO, Efland-Cheeks School Staff, United Voices of Efland-Cheeks, and <br /> County Staff have met monthly since July 1996. The task force has conducted surveys,public <br /> meetings, and toured other community-school parks. <br /> On February 3, 1997 the Board approved an agreement with Woolpert, a park planning firm, to <br /> design the proposed park. The firm has met with the task force several times and conducted a <br /> community park design meeting to receive citizen input. Woolpert and the task force have <br /> presented the proposed park design to the Orange County School Board on May 19, 1996. <br /> Although the firm has designed a comprehensive plan for the park, implementation can be <br /> completed in phases as funds are available. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The manager recommends that the Board receives the report as <br /> information. <br />
