11
participatory process with the Coalition partners and the law enforcement agencies. Assistance in
developing the specifics of the plan will come from the university through the Orange County _
Coalition faculty liaison.
Dissemination
The Coalition and participating communities will consider how best to develop dissemination
products for similar rural communities. This might be in the form of a workbook documenting
"how to's"of a Rural Safe Communities'program. The Institute for Government at the University
of North Carolina will be approached about helping to disseminate the project to government and
law enforcement agencies in other areas.
Dissemination.of the experiences of the project, including challenges, successes, and lessons
learned, will be multi-faceted. Obviously, Coalition experiences will first be shared through the
North Carolina Consortium, providing a mechanism for both giving and receiving feedback. In
addition, presentations can be developed for any national CBPH networking meetings. At the local
level, dissemination will happen through such outlets as the local television stations and
newspapers, association meetings, and presentations to service and religious organizations. Both
the process and outcomes will be documented and used to develop articles and presentations to
practice and academic professional audiences. Possibilities include the annual meeting of the
American Public Health Association,North Carolina Society for Public Health Educators
conferences, the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners, the National Association
of County Health Officers, and other local state and national groups and organizations as
appropriate. Most importantly, all dissemination efforts will reflect the perspective-used in CB PH-
initiatives: a partnership of community, university, and health agency representatives.
4
