2 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF CONMSSIONERS <br /> HILLSBOROUGH,NORTH CAROLINA <br /> RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION <br /> For <br /> Anne C. Barnes <br /> WHEREAS,the Honorable Anne C.Barnes was elected by the citizens of Orange County to serve as a county commissioner <br /> in November, 1978 and served until December 15, 1981 at which time she was elected to the North Carolina House <br /> of Representatives where she served with distinction from 1981 until 1996;and <br /> WHEREAS,while an Orange County Commissioner, she gave freely of her time and energy with her service to the board, <br /> the Council on Aging,the Agricultural Task Force,the CETA Advisory Council and the Board of Social Services; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS,in December, 1980,she was elected by her fellow commissioners to serve as chair of the board,the first woman <br /> to serve the Orange County Board of Commissioners in this capacity;and <br /> WHEREAS, throughout her 1S year career in the North Carolina House of Representatives, Mrs. Barnes earned the respect <br /> and admiration of her colleagues and constituents, serving as chair of the Education Committee and Education <br /> Oversight Committee;and <br /> WHEREAS,during her 27 years of service to Orange County and the State of North Carolina,Mrs. Barnes has demonstrated <br /> selfless devotion to,patient understanding of,and a unique insight into the concerns of the citizens she serves;and <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners, acting on behalf of the citizens of Orange <br /> County,hereby expresses to Anne C. Barnes its sincere gratitude and deep appreciation for nearly three decades of <br /> public service;and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be presented to Representative Barnes, to the press, and that the <br /> resolution shall become a part of the minutes of this meeting,this second day of June, 1997. <br /> William L.
