ITEM 4, <br /> Orange County Board of Health <br /> Meeting date: February 26, 1998 <br /> FROM: Personal Health Services Division <br /> SUBJECT: Funds for Expanding Breastfeeding Support to the Community <br /> ATTACE MNT(s): Memo dated February 18, 1998 from Dorothy Cdenti concerning <br /> the award of the funds;Mini-grant application from Karen Metzguer, RN,UNC <br /> Department of Neonatology. <br /> PURPOSE: The Board of Health must accept these funds in the amount of$1,845 as an <br /> amendment to the Health Department's State Consolidate Contract <br /> BACKGROUND: Mini-grants up to $2,000 for community breastfeeding support <br /> were made available on a competitive basis from the Division of Women's and Children's <br /> Health,North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. It was required that <br /> applications for funding be coordinated with local health departments as the money must <br /> come through the local health department State Consolidated Contract. Ms. Karen <br /> Metzguer,RN, a perinatal nurse educator based at UNC Hospitals, expressed an interest <br /> in applying for$1,845 to carry out a project to support breastfeeding continuation for <br /> babies in day care centers, and the application was approved (application attached). <br /> RECOIVLVMNDED ACTION: That the Board ofHealth accept the breastfeeding <br /> support grant in the amount of$1,845 to be added as an amendment to the Health <br /> Department State Consolidated Contract. <br />
