Classrooms and Associated Storage <br /> A. Regular Classrooms Basic School-28,400 sq. ft. <br /> Tier A -Add 1,200 sq. ft. <br /> Tier B -Add 3,600 sq. ft. <br /> Classrooms are based on the following number of students: <br /> • Kindergarten through Third Grade -23 students per classroom <br /> • Fourth and Fifth Grades - 26 students per classroom <br /> Local Standard NC Public School Facility <br /> (Sq. Ft). <br /> Kindergarten (4 rooms) 1,200 1,200 <br /> Grades I -3 (13 rooms) 1,200 1,000 - 1,200 <br /> Grades 4-5 (8 rooms) 1,000 850 - 1,000 <br /> Total square footage for regular classrooms in the Basic School is 28,400 square feet. <br /> Tier A includes 1,200 square feet for additional storage in the classroom which would <br /> allow classrooms to be used for afterschool programs. Other storage space for afterschool <br /> programs is included in the multi-purpose/physical education section of this report. <br /> Additional classroom storage is included in Tier B. The total amount of additional <br /> storage space is 3,400 square feet. Small project rooms for grades 4 and 5 are also <br /> included in this tier, adding 400 square feet. <br /> B. Pre-School Area Basic School- 1,700 sq. ft. <br /> Classroom size for children ages three and four is recommended by the State to be 1,200 <br /> to 1,400 square feet. The standards adopted by the Board of County Commissioners <br /> includes 1,700 square feet for this area. <br /> C. Special/Exceptional Children Basic School-4,800 sq. ft. <br /> Speech/Language Tier B - Add 850 sq. ft. <br /> Programs for exceptional children vary greatly, depending on local factors.
