Sheriff's Department- At the April 16 meeting,the Board of County Commissioners approved the six <br /> deputy I positions to staff the new jail addition. The 1996-97 budget includes a contingency <br /> appropriation for these positions. This budget amendment moves the funds ($43,558) for the salary and <br /> related costs for these positions from the Non-Departmental Sheriff's Contingency account to the <br /> Sheriff's Department operations account. (see page 2 of this abstract). <br /> 2. Corp of Engineers Drainage Basin Study-On April 1, 1997,the Board of County Commissioners <br /> approved an appropriation from their contingency account for$6,250 as the County's first of two <br /> installments for the drainage basin study project. The$200,000 cost of the study of the Bolin,Booker, <br /> and Morgan Creek watersheds will be shared between the Corp,the State,UNC, and local governments. <br /> The Corp.will pay one half of the total cost;the State will pay one quarter of the total cost; and,UNC, <br /> Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Orange County will each pay$12,500.This appropriation from the <br /> Commissioner's contingency account pays one half of the County's share. The remainder of the <br /> County's costs will be budgeted in the 1997-98 operating budget. <br /> The balance of the Board of Commissioner's contingency account, after this appropriation is$94,046. <br /> The activity of this account since the beginning of the year is as follows: <br /> 1996-97 Original Budget $100,000 <br /> Prior year balance carried over from 1995-96 for Daycare if needed) $25,000 <br /> Habitat for Humanity Reimbursement for Impact Fees $9,704 <br /> Community in Schools for People Under 6 capital improvements $15,000 <br /> Drainage Basin Stud $6,250 <br /> Balance 121,04k <br />
