Also, to designate the week of May 11 through <br /> 17 as Senior Center Week, a time to recognize our local senior centers as <br /> focal points for providing opportunities and services to our older citizens. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> For a number of years, Orange County Commissioners have issued an <br /> Older Americans Month and Senior Center Week Proclamation. <br /> Approximately 13,000 Orange County residents are sixty years of age <br /> and older, with this population projected to increase to more than 14,000 <br /> by the turn of the century. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Manager recommends that the Commissioners designate May as Older <br /> Americans Month and May 11 through 17 as Senior Center Week in <br /> Orange County and authorize Chair to sign proclamations. <br />
