Kittrell,Assistant County Manager <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBERS: -- ext. 2300 <br /> Hillsborough 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br /> Durham 688-7331 <br /> Mebane 227-2031 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve the charge for the Skill Development Center Advisory Committee. <br /> BACKGROUND: On January 21, 1997 the Board approved the composition of the Skill Development <br /> Center. The nine-member committee will include the following representatives: 1-County Commissioner, <br /> 2-School Board,2-major employers,3-citizens from the community at-large,and 1-workforce development <br /> board member. <br /> Also,the mission of the Skill Development Center was acknowledged as: To provide adequate training and <br /> employment services to allow all Orange County citizens to be self-sufficient and offer a broad range of <br /> services to employers, businesses and the community. <br /> County staff and agencies relocating to the Skill Development Center suggest the following Charge for the <br /> Committee: <br /> => To advise and report to the Board of Commissioners on all Skill Development Center Activities <br /> To ensure all public training and employment agencies will be located in the Skill Development Center <br /> To support a holistic"one stop"approach to coordinating skill development and job search services to <br /> citizens <br /> To assist agencies to design training to match existing and emerging jobs <br /> => To ensure the Skill Development Center provides labor market information,access to career training <br /> and job placement <br /> To establish formal linkages between employers and qualified workers <br /> To review annually the Skill Development Center's service outcomes <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The manager recommends that the Board approve the Charge to the Skill <br /> Development Center Advisory Board. <br />
