ORANGE COUNTY PLANNING DEPARTMENT 26
306F REVERE ROAD
HILLSBOROUGH, NORTH CAROLINA 27278
v y
HISTORIC PRESERVATION CONBUSSION
October 30, 1996
Elizabeth B.Collins
Post Office Box 7
Cedar Grove,NC 27231
Dear Ms.Collins:
Thank you for attending our Historic Preservation Commission meeting held last Thursday at the
Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. It was a pleasure to meet with you and discuss issues
surrounding a proposed nomination of Cedar Grove to the National Register of Historic Places.
For your information, the draft minutes of last Thursday's meeting are enclosed.
As we discussed at the meeting,we're taking a"straw vote"among property owners in the Cedar
Grove Crossroads area on the question of listing on the National Register. On the following
page, please check your response and return it to the Planning Department by December 2,
1996. (A pre-addressed,postage-paid envelope is provided for your convenience.) If a majority
of property owners support Cedar Grove being on the National Register of Historic Places,we
will begin the nomination process by selecting a qualified historic preservation consultant to
complete the work started by Shannon Sexton.(Ms. Sexton's report will be mailed to you under
separate cover next week.)
We greatly appreciate your interest and support in protecting the unique character of the Cedar
Grove community. We hope you will encourage your neighbors to support the National Register
Nomination. As always, please feel&ee to call our staff person,Don Belk,at the Orange County
Planning Dement,732-8181,extension 2594 if you have questions or need additional
informatics`
Sincerely,
14,10,xt X
Norma White,Chair
Orange County Historic Preservation Commission
Jdb
enclosures
Attachment# 5
