Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> Agenda Item Abstract <br /> Meeting Date: March 13, 1997 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item # 1 & 2 <br /> SUBJECT: Child Protective Services and Welfare Reform Status Reports <br /> Department: Social Services <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: , <br /> Marti Pryor-Cook <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br /> Hillsborough - 732-8181 <br /> Durham - 688-7331 <br /> Mebane - 227-2031 <br /> Chapel Hill - 967-9251/968-4501 <br /> Purpose: To provide information on the status of Welfare Reform initiatives and on the <br /> delivery of protective services to abused, neglected, and dependent children and their <br /> families. <br /> Background: Representatives of the Community Child Protection Team will make a <br /> presentation on the status of Child Protective Services (CPS) in Orange County. <br /> Overhead slides will be used to present an overview of CPS, to provide statistics on <br /> referrals and dispositions, and to highlight the strengths and gaps in the current delivery <br /> system. Staff members, including social workers, will be present to answer questions. <br /> The status report on Welfare Reform initiatives will be presented by staff members. <br /> They, too, will utilize overhead slides to present the information. This report will focus <br /> on the Work First program , implications for certain recipients who currently receive <br /> services, and emerging issues. <br /> Specific proposals and/or recommendations will not be included in the presentations. <br /> The purpose of the worksession is to provide information on the two programs that we <br /> expect will require special attention by funders and providers over the next few years. <br /> Recommendations: <br /> None <br />
