The intended process is to a) solicit and <br /> receive citizen comments;b)deliberate about legislative issues that should be included; c)provide <br /> direction to the County Attorney to draft prospective legislation; d) formally consider and approve <br /> the County's legislative agenda at the March 18 meeting: and e)direct the County Attorney to <br /> transmit the County's legislative agenda to the Orange County legislative delegation prior to the <br /> March 27 deadline for introduction of local bills before the 1997 General Assembly. <br /> Items advertised for this public hearing are identified in the list found at page 2 of this abstract. <br /> Item 8 on this list has been forwarded by Commissioner Brown for consideration(see background at <br /> page 3). The Human Relations Commission has provided a revised recommendation(page 4) <br /> concerning the approach to Item 3 on the Board of Commissioners' list of potential legislative <br /> issues. Additional background information concerning Item 6 on the list is included at pages 5-16. <br /> Copies of legislative issues being considered by the governing boards of Orange County's <br /> municipalities accompany this agenda abstract as additional background information(Carrboro - <br /> pages 17-21; Chapel Hill -pages 22-29; Hillsborough-pages 30-41). <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board conduct the public hearing <br /> and provide direction to the Manager and Attorney concerning the development of the Board's <br /> legislative agenda for further consideration at the March 18 meeting. <br />
