An estimated $70-100,000 (depending on
Congressional action) may be available in matching funds for preservation grants
to local communities or nonprofit organizations.
In accordance with federal requirements, $65-70,000 of the state's allocation
must be reserved for grants to communities that participate in the Certified Local
Government (CLG) program (see enclosed map). Any remainder will be targeted at
current projects with fiscal obligations extending into 1997 and 1998. Because of
the small amount of federal grants available, there will be no general solicitation of
applications in non-CLG areas for 1997.
Enclosed is a 1997 Grant Application packet. Unlike previous years, the narrative
information and application form can be used for all applicants and types of
projects. A competitive selection process is used to determine all recipients.
Grants are awarded on a 60/40 matching basis, and range from $5,000 to
$15,000. All projects must be completed by July 31, 1998.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact Lloyd Childers, grants
administrator, at (919) 733-4763.
Enclosure
DB:ro
North Carolina'0 historic preserVedon program rocatvas federal financial assistance for identificatioi 'and preservation of
historic properties:Under Tithi VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1984 end Section 504`of the kshabilitetiori Actof 1973, the
U.S. Department of theanteno fprehibita:,discrimination on the basis o. :co nation* or gin:gex, religion,
age,or handicap in its federally-assisted programs. If you, believeiyou have been discriminated against in any program,
activity,or facility,as descnbod'above or :you desire further information,please'vi.nta to:Ofrice for Equal,pppottunity,
U.S.Department of the Interior,Washington, DC:20240
109 East Jones Street•Raleigh,North Carolina 27601-2807 V
