Department of Transportation for FY1996-97. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County Transportation Program is recognized as a <br /> NCDOT Section 5311 rural public system and is eligible for <br /> special funds to subsidize existing O.P.T. (Orange Public <br /> Transportation) public routes by paying 80% of the fully <br /> allocated cost of public rider trips. Two senior citizens <br /> fixed routes and one Orange Enterprises route have been <br /> identified, along with the OPT North-South Link public <br /> shuttle, as available to the general public. The N.C. <br /> Department of Transportation will reimburse on a per-trip <br /> basis. The purpose of the Rural Public funds is to <br /> encourage rural and small urban systems to expand <br /> public ridership in addition to providing human service <br /> agency transportation. The additional funds will support <br /> our current operations. <br /> RECCMMENDATION: Manager recommends approval of NCDOT Rural Public <br /> Transportation funds and Chair to sign the <br /> Certified Statement of Participation for FY 1996-97. <br /> FN:AB70121 .Doc <br />
