Blythe <br /> TE LE PHONE NUMBER <br /> Hillsborough 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br /> ----------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> PURPOSE: To consider restructuring the vacant permanent part-time 20 <br /> hour Assistant to the Clerk position within the Commissioners' office <br /> to a information/communications position. <br /> BACKGROUND: Currently, the Clerk's Office has a vacant Assistant to the <br /> Clerk position. Prior to beginning recruitment for the position, the <br /> Clerk has assessed the needs of the office and the workload as well as <br /> the functions of this position. The Clerk and the County Manager also <br /> reviewed and agreed upon the information function of this position as <br /> related to the public information functions of the Management Analyst <br /> position in the Manager's office. <br /> As a result of this review, the Clerk has identified the need <br /> for additional communications support for the Commissioners office. <br /> The Clerk has restructured the duties and responsibilities of the <br /> vacant position to provide for this support in the context of the goal <br /> statement as submitted by Commissioner Gordon. <br /> The Personnel Department has completed a classification <br /> review of the restructured position to take account of the changed <br /> duties and responsibilities. Based on this review, Personnel has <br /> determined the position should be reclassified from the current class <br /> of Assistant to the Clerk at salary grade 60 to the class of <br /> Information Specialist at salary grade 65 in the Orange County <br /> Classification and Pay Plan. Funds to implement the reclassification <br /> are available within the approved budget for 1996-97. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends the Board approve the <br /> restructuring of the position within the Clerk's Office to be a <br /> communications support position as described above and on the attached <br /> position description. <br />
