Figure 2-5:Desktop Speaker <br /> The speaker is a self-contained unit that is placed on a desktop,mounted in a rack/furniture,mounted <br /> on a wall,or mounted on a computer monitor. It contains an amplifier that provides a maximum of 2 <br /> Watts of power.The VPM provides power for the speakers through its interconnecting cable.A <br /> mounting bracket is included with the speaker.The speaker is designed for use near computer <br /> monitors. <br /> The speaker provides the user with a continuous volume control.This serves as a master volume <br /> control for all the audio that appears in the speaker.When the user adjusts this volume control,all the <br /> audio in the speaker is increased or decreased by the same amount.The speaker is configured to <br /> provide either full muting or a fixed level(determined by the hardware and not user adjustable)when <br /> its volume control is set to its minimum level. The cable supplied with the speaker contains one end <br /> with two of the pins shorted together.When plugged into the speaker,this end causes the minimum <br /> volume to be set to full mute. If the other end of the cable is plugged into the speaker,the minimum <br /> volume is set to the minimum level. <br /> 2.3.7 Desk Microphone <br /> The VPM is capable of supporting a desktop microphone.The desktop microphone contains a <br /> microphone cartridge on a flexible shaft and two buttons in its base.One button controls the General <br /> Transmit feature.
