WHEREAS, on March 1 and 2, 2013, Orange High School's Wrestling Team captured the <br /> North Carolina High School Athletic Association's (NCHSAA) 3A State <br /> Championship; and <br /> WHEREAS, under the guidance of Head Coach Bobby Shriner, Orange High School's <br /> Wrestling Team earned its sixth state title in the past eight years; and <br /> WHEREAS, six of the ten participating Orange High wrestlers made it to the semifinals, and <br /> four advanced to the finals; and <br /> WHEREAS, Coach Bobby Shriner was named North Carolina Mat News Coach of the Year <br /> and the National Wrestling Coaches Association's North Carolina Coach of the <br /> Year, and reached and passed his 500th career dual team victory; and <br /> WHEREAS, through hard work, dedication, teamwork, and commitment, the Panthers have <br /> brought honor upon themselves, Orange High School, the Orange County <br /> Schools District and Orange County; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> expresses its sincere appreciation and respect for the Orange High School <br /> Wrestling Team and Coach Bobby Shriner for the Panthers' outstanding <br /> achievement, and their inspiration to youth across North Carolina through their <br /> dedication, teamwork, and athletic prowess. <br /> This the seventh day of May, 2013. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Pelissier to <br /> approve a proclamation recognizing Orange High School's Wrestling Team winning the 2013 <br /> North Carolina High School Athletic Association's 3A State Championship and authorize the <br /> Chair to sign. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> d. Older Americans Month Proclamation <br /> The Board considered approving a proclamation joining Federal and State <br /> governments in designating the month of May 2013 as Older Americans Month and a time to <br /> honor older adults for their contributions to society and to Orange County and authorizing the <br /> Chair to sign. <br /> Janice Tyler, Director on Aging, gave some background on older Americans. She said <br /> this honor was first established under President Kennedy in 1963. She said that a person <br /> turns 65 every 8 seconds in the US. She reviewed some department initiatives and programs. <br /> She said that the purpose of tonight is to honor older Americans. <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> Proclamation <br /> Older Americans Month — May 2013 <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County is a community that includes over 20,000 persons aged 60 and <br /> older; and <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County is committed to valuing all individuals and recognizing their <br /> ongoing life achievements; and <br />
