These funds,totaling$9,407,enable the department to <br /> address needs of young children and their families in Orange County. Families throughout the <br /> County will benefit from the initiatives of this program. Special emphasis will be placed on the <br /> needs of young children and their families in Northern Orange County and of the Latino community <br /> in throughout the County. This budget amendment(see Smarm Simi Grant P' err Ordinate,page <br /> 4)will bring the budget for this program to$16,907 for the 1998-99 fiscal year_ <br /> Health <br /> 2) The Health Department has received an allocation from the State totaling$4,950. These funds <br /> will off set costs associated with public education related to smoke-free dining. Examples of the <br /> education initiatives include producing and distributing a Smoke-Free Dining Guide to Orange <br /> County Citizens and developing a media campaign to promote smoke-free restaurants. No <br /> County funds are required to match the State monies. (see budget amendment located on page 3, <br /> column#2) <br /> 3) The Environmental Health Division of the Health Department has received additional Food and <br /> Lodging funds for the 1998-99 fiscal year. The addidonat$1,178 provide funds for this division to <br /> develop, publish and distribute a m=ual for day care providers. The manual will cover such <br /> topics as safe food preparation and service,playground safety,safe physical environments, and <br />
