ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: June 18, 2013 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. 11 -h <br />SUBJECT: Orange County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council <br />DEPARTMENT: Board of Commissioners PUBLIC HEARING: (Y /N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): Under Separate Cover INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Juvenile Crime Prevention Council Clerk's Office, 245 -2130 <br />Membership Roster <br />PURPOSE: To consider making a Commissioner appointment to the Orange County Juvenile <br />Crime Prevention Council. <br />BACKGROUND: In the past (until last year (2012) Orange County participated in a multi - <br />county partnership with Chatham for both Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and the Criminal <br />Justice Partnership Program — for adults. In 2012, due to state changes, Orange and Chatham <br />separated and Orange County now administers JCPC programming efforts independently. <br />Counties are no longer funded for CIPP programs. FYI, when this council operated as a multi - <br />county organization, one of the Chatham commissioners served as the "commissioner' <br />representative. The Juvenile Crime Prevention Council is preparing its annual report which <br />includes identifying membership for the new year. They will be meeting Friday, June 7, 2013 to <br />finalize the recommendations. Per Mr. Jeff Nieman, Chair, Orange County JCPC, the by -laws <br />provide for a seat on the council for a member of the Orange County Commissioners. <br />With this new roster, comes 5 BOCC appointees which the Clerk's Office can begin <br />advertising for. <br />The Council is requesting a Commissioner be appointed to the Orange County Juvenile <br />Crime Prevention Council. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): Consider appointing a County Commissioner to the Juvenile Crime <br />Prevention Council. <br />
